Hello and welcome to our new website!!

Our club has been Douglas County Bees for about eight years, but now we're moving into the future with a fancy new name and big plans to educate ourselves and the public about our favorite insect — the honeybee.

The Umpqua Valley Beekeepers Association will focus on the entire Umpqua Valley, not just Douglas County. We will work with the Oregon State Beekeepers Association, as well as neighboring beekeeping associations, to help spread the word on what makes these insects so important. They are a part of our world now, despite not being native to our continent, but they're here, they're not going anywhere, and help us tremendously in our daily lives.

Swarm season will be starting soon — as soon as this insane freezing weather leaves us — and then we'll be moving into festival season, starting with the Glide Wildflower Show in April. All of our festivals will be on this page, as we decide which ones we'll appear at. We try to bring an observation hive if at all possible, but that depends on how the bees are doing that day, the weather, transportation, etc. The bees come first.

Our "Resources" pages will be filled over the next few weeks with plenty of information about the honeybee, beekeeping, gardening, the benefit of native plants, and especially how to get started if you haven't taken your first step.

Let's hope January takes these freezing temperatures with her when she leaves!
